Chloe Nelson was born Jan 19, 1883, died Aug 9th, 1896, aged 13 years, 7 months, and 21 days. She was the oldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.H. Nelson, of Downington. For about three weeks she was a sufferer of that most dreaded disease, typhoid fever, but on Sunday morning, just as the sun shone its first bright rays on the beautiful green earth, Chloe took wings and soared away to a more beautiful land than this. She bore her suffering with much patience, and her sufferings were great, but at last the Lord thought best to take home another of his jewels and he claimed Chloe for that one, and while she suffered so, she would look up at her mother and say, “I’m going home in the morning” and after her speech left her she would look up and smile as if to say, “it is all well with me.” Chloe was a bright, intelligent child, and was loved by all who knew her. She loved the Sunday School and she loved on Sunday mornings to meet in the Sunday School class to learn more about Jesus. She looked forward to Children’s Day in which she was to take a part, but a happier time does she enjoy among the angels, and while we think how lonely it is without her, we feel so sad, but it should be a pleasant thought to us to think how happy she is. It seems so hard to part with loved ones and not see them anymore, but the Lord hath said: “Suffer little children to come unto me for of such is the Kingdom of Heaven.” “The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away: blessed be the name of the Lord.” She leaves father, mother and four sisters, besides a host of relatives and friends to mourn their loss. The family has the sympathy of all. Funeral services were held at the M.E. Church, where it was so nicely decorated with lovely flowers, Rev. Chappelear officiating. Her frail body was laid to rest in the Wells Cemetery.
